The election of Judge Gina Kay Calvert to Jefferson Family Court has created a vacancy in Jefferson District Court (Div. 11). Similarly, the upcoming retirement of Judge James Shake will create a vacancy in Jefferson Circuit Court (Div. 2). Both vacancies will be filled by appointment. Gov. Matt Bevin will make the appointments from a list of names recommended by the Judicial Nominating Commission.
Attorneys who meet the constitutional requirements – U.S. citizenship, residency in Jefferson County for at least two years and admission to the Kentucky bar for at least two years (district court) or eight years (circuit court) – may apply to the Judicial Nominating Commission to be recommended for appointment to one of the vacancies. Those interested may request a questionnaire from the JNC or download it HERE. Completed questionnaires must be received by the JNC on or before March 6, 2017.
For more information or to request a questionnaire, contact Kathy R. Stevens, Executive Secretary Judicial Nominating Commission, at (502) 654-4162. Return nine unbound copies of completed questionnaires to her at Office of the Chief Justice, State Capitol, Room 230, 700 Capitol Avenue, Frankfort, Kentucky 40601.
