The Louisville Bar Association Placement Service matches area law firms seeking qualified attorneys and legal support staff with the appropriate employees. The service refers attorneys, legal secretaries, paralegals, receptionists and other legal support staff for full and part-time employment.

Placement Director David Mohr is well versed in the legal market with 20 years of legal staffing experience, in addition to 10 years of prior paralegal experience. The Louisville Bar Association is currently looking to fill the following positions:

LEGAL ASSISTANT - The LBA’s Placement Service is currently working with a regional law firm with an office located on the east side of Louisville. They are seeking to hire a full-time Legal Assistant to be part of their Medical Malpractice Defense group. Candidate would need strong verbal & written communication skills, attention to detail, excellent knowledge of computers; Outlook, Word and Internet.  Court e-filing experience preferred. Candidate should have 2 or more years of experience supporting an attorney with civil litigation matters. Competitive pay based on experience, plus an extensive benefits package.

LEGAL ASSISTANT- Large downtown Louisville law office is seeking to hire a full-time Legal Assistant to support their corporate practice group. This position will include traditional secretarial responsibilities including preparation of detailed agreements, electronic filings, client management, billing, time entry, formatting, proofreading and editing of documents, travel arrangements, and other legal assistant functions. This will be an in-office position until up to speed and then convert into a hybrid position working from home 2 days per week. Salary based on experience, plus excellent benefits and work environment.

ATTORNEY - The LBA’s Placement Service is currently working with a medium size law office in downtown Louisville that is seeking to hire both a seasoned Attorney that can handle cases with minimal supervision, as well as a newer Attorney.  The firm primarily has a civil defense practice consisting of insurance defense type cases.  The seasoned Attorney candidate must have at least 4+ years of experience with civil litigation in Kentucky. The newer Attorney can be a recent graduate to 2+ years of any experience. Excellent salary based on experience, plus bonus opportunities.

LEGAL ASSISTANT - The LBA’s Placement Service is currently working with a law firm located on the east side of Louisville. They are seeking to hire a full-time Legal Assistant to be part of a growing, friendly group. Candidate would need strong verbal & written communication skills, attention to detail, excellent knowledge of computers; Outlook, Word and Internet.  Court e-filing experience preferred but not required. 2 or more years of experience supporting an attorney or executive preferred and civil litigation experience is a plus. Hours are Mon. – Fri. 8:30-5:00. Competitive pay based on experience, plus an extensive benefits package.

ASSOCIATE ATTORNEY - The LBA's Placement Service is currently working with a centrally located Louisville law office, that is seeking an associate attorney to help support their Creditor’s Rights practice. They will be working with collections, while learning some of our other areas of practice, such as bankruptcy, foreclosure, and litigation. The individual will be making appearances at court both here in Jefferson County and out in the state. While the firm would consider a new graduate, experience will be considered in determining salary. Candidates must be willing to travel, must be a “people person”, with the ability to think on their feet, and be willing to learn new areas of the law.  This is a full-time position with salary, potential bonuses, health insurance, and other benefits.

LITIGATION PARLEGAL- The LBA’s Placement Service is working with a large, downtown Louisville law office that is seeking to hire a litigation paralegal. The ideal candidate must have at least three years of experience in the area of commercial litigation with either a college degree, ABA-approved paralegal certificate or experience equivalent. Strong knowledge and experience with discovery is a must, as well as knowledge accessing and reviewing court dockets.  Candidates should also possess strong verbal and written communication skills, be highly organized, have strong technical and database skills, and possess pre-trial experience. Pay is based on experience, plus a full benefits package.

REAL ESTATE CLOSING ATTORNEY - The LBA’s Placement Service is working with a comprehensive title agency located on the east side of Louisville that is seeking to hire a Real Estate/Closing Attorney to join their team. At least one year of prior real estate law experience is preferred. Must have active bar license in Kentucky and in good standing. Candidate will conduct in-office and out of office closings, draft real estate transaction documents including deeds, subordinations, power of attorney, mortgage satisfactions, and affidavits. This is a full-time position with pay based on candidate/experience, plus full benefits and PTO.

CRIMINAL DEFENSE PARALEGAL – The LBA’s Placement Service is currently working with a downtown criminal defense office that is seeking a full-time paralegal with an associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Paralegal studies, strong research skills, knowledge of the adversary legal system and the defense role and function in that system, the ability to work in a group setting, share responsibilities with other paralegals and excellent organizational and writing skills are necessary for the position.  Hourly pay, plus benefits.

CRIMINAL INTAKE CLERK - The LBA is currently working with a criminal defense office that needs assistance in their intake department. Candidate will be assisting with the initial write up of the cases, data entry and records retention duties. Must have attention to detail, good penmanship and be dependable. Great entry-level position for someone looking to get a start in legal. Starting pay is around $30,000, plus full benefits are offered including; health, dental, retirement plan and paid time off. The hours are 8:15 to 4:30, Mon-Fri.

PART-TIME LAW CLERK / LEGAL ASSISTANT - The LBA Placement Service is currently working with a small Louisville law office that is seeking a part-time law clerk / legal assistant. Work hours are flexible and include work-from-home options. Benefits and salary would be commensurate for a similar role in the Louisville market. The job description is to assist the paralegal and attorneys (two partners) with day-to-day law firm administration and legal tasks, including client intake duties, research, drafting, and filing/mail/document management. Pay based on candidate.

ATTORNEY - The LBA’s Placement Service is currently working with a boutique law office in downtown Louisville that is known for its white-collar criminal defense and constitutional civil rights practice. They are seeking a litigation associate to join their firm. Attorney candidate must have at least 2+ years of experience with civil or criminal litigation in Kentucky. Must be able to write compelling legal documents with precision and clarity. Excellent salary based on experience, plus a comprehensive benefits package.

The screening process includes a personal interview, education and bar standing verification, testing where applicable and reference checks. Should a candidate not appear to be a good recommendation, he or she will not be submitted to our clients.

The process by which we perform the candidate search goes as follows:

  1. Those interested should e-mail a job description, including work hours, salary, benefits offered, a brief description of job duties, and experience and education level desired of the candidates to Placement Director David Mohr at dmohr@loubar.org.
  2. David will then search his database of candidates for those who fill the specified requirements and are actively seeking employment. He will also advertise and recruit for the position.
  3. Once he has found a suitable group of candidates (i.e., only those who appear to meet the qualifications needed to perform the job), David will submit, to you, the resumes of those individuals.
  4. If you choose to hire a candidate unassociated with the LBA Placement Service, you owe nothing. If you do hire a candidate provided by the LBA, we will generate an invoice for the placement after verifying he or she is performing well as an employee of your firm. Should that candidate not work out for any reason within 45 days of placement, we will restart the recruiting and interview efforts to replace that candidate at no extra charge.
