The Louisville Bar Association Placement Service matches area law firms seeking qualified attorneys and legal support staff with the appropriate employees. The service refers attorneys, legal secretaries, paralegals, receptionists and other legal support staff for full and part-time employment.

Placement Director David Mohr is well versed in the legal market with 14 years of legal staffing experience, in addition to 10 years of prior paralegal experience. As an active member of the Louisville Association of Paralegals, Legal Secretaries of Louisville and the Association of Legal Administrators, David has the knowledge to connect you with the right individual or firm.

Thank you for considering the LBA's Placement Service for assistance in your candidate search. All of our candidates are pre-screened personally by our placement director. The screening process includes a personal interview, education and bar standing verification, testing where applicable and reference checks. Should a candidate not appear to be a good recommendation, he or she will not be submitted to our clients.

The process by which we perform the candidate search goes as follows:

  1. Those interested should e-mail a job description, including work hours, salary, benefits offered, a brief description of job duties, and experience and education level desired of the candidates to Placement Director David Mohr at
  2. David will then search his database of candidates for those who fill the specified requirements and are actively seeking employment. He will also advertise and recruit for the position.
  3. Once he has found a suitable group of candidates (i.e., only those who appear to meet the qualifications needed to perform the job), David will submit, to you, the resumes of those individuals.
  4. If you choose to hire a candidate unassociated with the LBA Placement Service, you owe nothing. If you do hire a candidate provided by the LBA, we will generate an invoice for the placement after verifying he or she is performing well as an employee of your firm. Should that candidate not work out for any reason within 45 days of placement, we will restart the recruiting and interview efforts to replace that candidate at no extra charge.
  5. Please feel free to contact David for more information regarding the placement fee, which is MUCH lower than other staffing firms—and LBA members receive a 50 percent discount!

OFFICE ASSISTANT/RECEPTIONIST  The LBA is currently working with a regional law firm that has a varied downtown Louisville practice which is growing. They are seeking a full-time receptionist/office assistant to start, but as they continue to grow there might be an opportunity to move into a legal assistant role, (which would be a year or two down the road). This is a temp to hire position and the pay is based on the candidate/experience. Once the candidate is hired on permanently, full benefits are offered. Parking is paid from the start.

CRIMINAL INTAKE CLERK  The LBA is currently working with a criminal defense office that needs assistance in their intake department. Candidate will be assisting with the initial write up of the cases, data entry and records retention duties. Must have attention to detail, good penmanship and be dependable. Great entry-level position for someone looking to get a start in legal. Pay is approx. $12 per hour to start. Full benefits are offered including; health, dental, retirement plan and paid time off. The hours are 8:15 to 4:30, Mon-Fri.

ASSOCIATE ATTORNEY  The LBA is currently working with a law firm located on the east side of Louisville that is seeking to add a new Attorney to their growing practice.  Their practice consists of a variety of defense work for public entities, and they frequently defend public service employee’s such as Police Officers, etc. They are seeking a candidate with at least two years of experience in civil defense work and licensed to practice in Kentucky. No new grads, unless they have years of related experience prior, as their ideal candidate will have 2-10+ years of experience as a practicing Attorney. No book of business needed, as there is plenty of work to keep the candidate busy. Salary is based on experience, plus incentive pay and full benefits, which includes payment of all license fees, CLE’s, organizational dues and liability insurance.

REAL ESTATE CLOSING ASSISTANT – The LBA is currently working with a small residential real estate closing office located in St. Matthews that is seeking to add a loan closing assistant. They are seeking an individual with outstanding clerical and organizational skills with attention to detail. Tasks will include preparation of title commitments, working with real estate agents, and loan originators. Prior real estate office experience would be preferred but not necessary for the right sharp individual. They would prefer a temp-to-perm situation, but may consider a direct hire for the right person. Salary based on candidate/experience.

FAMILY LAW LEGAL ASSISTANT  The LBA Placement Service is currently working with a large downtown law firm, which happens to be voted one of the best law firms to work for, that is seeking to hire a full-time Legal Assistant for their Family Law Group. Candidate must have at least 2-3 years of experience in Family Law matters and excellent computer, organizational and communication skills. Must be able to work as part of the Family Law team and independently as well in order to maintain deadlines and accomplish tasks. Competitive salary and full benefits offered for the right candidate. Pay is based on candidate/experience and paid parking and paid time off is offered.

PART-TIME BOOKKEEPER – The LBA’s Placement Service is currently working with a well-established downtown law firm that is seeking to hire a part-time bookkeeper. The job would entail 5-6 hours per day, working with a long-term employee on accounts payable and receivable, which would include; electronic and some hardcopy billings, processing electronic and paper payments, paying bills and producing monthly and annual accounting reports. They use Timeslips and QuickBooks for these functions. Previous bookkeeping and billing experience required, experience in the legal industry is desired but not required. Pay is based on experience and they pay parking and offer PTO and a 401-K retirement plan.

LEGAL ASSISTANT  The LBA is currently working with a criminal defense office that is seeking to hire a full-time Legal Assistant. Candidate will be assisting several Attorneys with document production, calendar management, file management, etc. Must have attention to detail, excellent computer and typing skills (At least 50 wpm) and be dependable. Some experience is preferred but not necessary for someone sharp with good computer skills and perhaps legal education. Pay is approx. $12 per hour to start. Full benefits are offered including: health, dental, retirement plan and paid time off. The hours are 8:15 to 4:30, Mon-Fri.
