The ethics canon treats the lawyer like Count Dracula. The lawyer must be invited to meet the fresh client on whom he "feeds." He cannot badger the weak and infirm. He must pay not even one pint of his fees to others to recommend him. He only has free license with his families of blood and friends, of others of his profession, and of those previously marked by him as his clients. And while such rules might have made sense in 19th century Transylvania, how do 21st century lawyers abide by them in an increasingly interconnected world of personal networks and social media?
