CARE-Credit Abuse Resistance Education-is a volunteer service project delivered to high school seniors by attorneys and judges. It consists of a 50 minute classroom presentation on credit education and is funded by the Kentucky Bar Foundation with the support of local law firms.

The goal of the CARE program is to give high school seniors knowledge about managing money and extended credit; an appreciation for the benefits of responsible use of credit and an awareness of the consequences of abusing credit.

High schools request a CARE speaker and schedule CARE class time. Attorneys sign up to visit the school(s) and speak to students for a 50 minutes class period. The school receives CARE booklets for each classroom presentation. Attorneys may attend a face-to-face CARE orientation if one is offered in their area, or view the online sample presentation on the website. A speaking outline is also provided.

Please attend the one -hour overview to prepare volunteers to speak to students in Jefferson County Public High Schools about responsible use of credit. This orientation will cover the suggested content of the program and best practices from experienced presenters. Your time in the classroom will be a conversation with students about budgeting, making money choices, establishing a banking relationship, using credit as a financial tool and preparing for life-long money situations in college and career. The CARE program has been delivered to teens in Jefferson County by attorneys and judges since 2008. It is approved by the school district as an essential component of financial literacy.

The program dates are March 5 and 7. You can sign up for your choice of date and time at the Orientation. The CARE program qualifies for CLE credit.

The CARE program is led by a Committee of LBA members who deliver the program with the help of over 70 volunteers from law firms in Louisville each year. The CARE committee is chaired by Ted King, with Frost Brown Todd.

Lunch is available to pre-order for $8.50. Meeting will be held at the LBA, 600 W. Main St., Ste. 110 Louisville, KY 40202.
