Is your client’s (or you firm’s) employee benefits plan compliant with the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA)? Are you prepared for a Department of Labor (DOL) investigation into your or your client’s employee benefits plan? Whether you’re advising client’s regarding their benefits plans or responsible for managing your firm’s benefits plan, the answer must be “yes.” If you’re unsure, or if you just want to learn more about ERISA compliance, come gain helpful insights from two Benefits Advisors with the DOL’s Employee Benefits Security Administration (EBSA). The presenters will outline, in general and at length, the laws under Part 7 of ERISA that govern group health plans. An understanding of these laws will assist plan sponsors and those who advise plan sponsors in meeting the obligations incumbent upon those who sponsor health plans subject to Title I of ERISA with regard specifically to portability of health insurance, disclosure obligations, discrimination prohibitions, etc. The presenters will then walk you through an EBSA investigation and discuss various issues to consider such as EBSA’s enforcement initiatives, how to be prepared for an audit, information/documentation needed for audits, investigative emphases, fiduciary issues, criminal liability, etc.

Speakers include: Senior Benefits Advisor Sherry Brackney and Benefits Advisor Joe Kramer of the U.S. Department of Labor’s Employee Benefits Security Administration.
