A message and reminder from the IP Law Section vice-chair:
As a reminder, the Intellectual Property Section meets Tuesday, May 9 at noon. The CLE last month was well-attended and a success (after a few technology glitches). Again, thanks to Cory Furman and Mary Bagnall for providing both a Canadian and British perspective on intellectual property rights, as well as updates on upcoming changes. Further, the section meetings have also been well-attended, leading to interesting and informal discussions on a variety of topics. For those who have regularly attended, thank you for contributing. To those who have yet to attend, I encourage you to do so in the future.
This month, we will be discussing the upcoming half-day CLE, tentatively set for June 20. We already have a few potential speakers, but we are always looking for more volunteers, in both June and later in the year. If you have interest in giving a presentation or have a topic that you think would make a good CLE presentation, please attend the meeting on Tuesday or contact either me or Mari-Elise.
Next, I will be discussing a new opinion from the Federal Circuit, Helsinn Healthcare S.A. v. Teva Pharmaceuticals. The case involves the “on-sale bar” as prior art and whether the AIA changed the standard. Again, if anyone else has an additional or alternate topic for discussion, please let me know.
Finally, Mari-Elise will be discussing the recent Sixth Circuit decision in Oaklawn Jockey Club, Inc. v. Kentucky Downs, LLC et al.
Regards,
Joe Morris, Co-chair
