Program Description: Military Veterans and the Law The Jefferson County Veteran’s Treatment Court (JCVTC) is now hearing cases. The JCVTC is targeted toward veterans with mental health and substance abuse issues. The court is funded by a three year federal grant.
This seminar will educate the participants in the operation and nature of this new court. Judge David Holton will moderate the day’s activities. A panel of speakers will detail the manner in which the veterans find their way to the VTC. The panel will consist of: Sonny Hatfield, Veterans Justice outreach; George Moore, Assistant Jefferson County Attorney; Dr. Tony Zipple, CEO Seven Counties Services; and Connie Neal, Administrative Office of the Courts.
Jefferson County Attorney Mike O’Connell will speak on the effectiveness of Veterans Treatment Courts. Marc Theriault will cover issues related to Veteran’s law. In addition, Dr. Steven Bliss from Veteran’s Administration will cover combat-related mental health and substance abuse issues.
