Program Description: U.S. Patent Reform: An Overview of the America Invents Act
This brown bag CLE will provide an overview of some of the key provisions of the Patent Reform Act of 2011, known as the Leahy-Smith America Invents Act (AIA), and address how the new law may affect your patent procurement and enforcement strategies. Steve Hall and Bill Parks of Wyatt Tarrant & Combs will present information on the AIA’s changes with respect to the conversion to a first-inventor-to- file system, substantive modifications to prior art definitions, grace periods, and expansion of the prior commercial use defense to patent infringement. Matthew Cutler of Harness Dickey & Pierce will provide an in-depth presentation on the new inter partes review and post-grant review proceedings created by provisions of the AIA that took effect on September 16, 2012.
