Program Description: Helping Victims of Domestic Violence in Family Court The Domestic Violence Advocacy Program (DVAP) is a program of the Legal Aid Society of Louisville; the DVAP provides free legal representation for victims of domestic violence in Family Court in Jefferson County, Kentucky in obtaining protective orders against perpetrators.
This program, entitled "Helping Victims of Domestic Violence in Family Court", will teach attorneys the Nuts and Bolts of representing victims of domestic violence in Domestic Violence Order (DVO) hearings and serve as a primer for volunteer attorneys who handle DVO dockets for Legal Aid’s DVAP. Statutory and case law will be reviewed with an eye toward providing practitioners the "fundamentals" needed to handle these cases. The dynamics of domestic violence will also be reviewed to provide a deeper understanding of the forces at play when an abuser inflicts violence upon his/her domestic partner.
LBA members can attend this seminar FREE of charge by agreeing to represent TWO (NEW) Legal Aid clients, pro bono, in their domestic relations matters. Please call the LBA CLE Department at 583-5314 for details.
