Representing Litigants at Domestic Violence Hearings

This program will teach participants the Nuts and Bolts of representing litigants at Domestic Violence Order (DVO) Hearings. Statutory and case law will be reviewed and discussed. Speakers will also address the Cycle of Domestic Violence, the Role of Courts in addressing Domestic Violence and Community Resources which are available to address domestic violence.

This CLE will serve as required training for volunteers for the new DVO Pro Bono Project, which is scheduled to be launched in late June 2009. Attorneys who are new to family law will leave this CLE equipped to represent clients at DVO hearings. Veteran family law attorneys will find this CLE course a helpful refresher on domestic violence law and an avenue to get current on latest in DVO law.

Speakers include: Judge Jerry J. Bowles, Jefferson Family Court Division Six; Tara W. Hagerty, Chief Family Court Clerk; Jessy Haywood, Center for Women and Families; Neva-Marie Polley, Legal Aid Society and Judge Ann O'Malley Shake, Senior Judge and Mediator

The KBA allows attorneys to earn up to 6.0 hours of CLE credit per year by viewing accredited video tapes.
