Hispanic Heritage Month Program

Please join us as we celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, hosted by the LBA’s Diversity Committee and the Lee A. Webb Latino Legal Clinic Committee.

The program will take place at the Bar Center (600 W. Main St., Ste. 110) from 3-5 p.m. and includes a FREE screening of the documentary film “A Class Apart."

Following the film, the first Lee A. Webb Award will be presented to a deserving LBA member and outstanding advocate for the local Hispanic/Latino community. Refreshments will be served.

A Class Apart
From a small-town Texas murder emerged a landmark civil rights case. The documentary focuses on a little-known story of a team of Mexican-American lawyers, assembled by Gus Garcia (left), who took Hernandez v. Texas to the United States Supreme Court, challenging Jim Crow-style discrimination. It would be the first time a Mexican-American appeared before the Supreme Court.

Additionally, a Latino Legal Clinic has been scheduled for Tuesday, October 1 from 4-6 p.m. at Wesley House Community Services. If you are interested in volunteering for our clinics, please contact Kate Lindsay at klindsay@loubar.org or (502) 583-5314.
